Lamour has non-title bout with Brazil-born MMA vet
Russell Lamour returns to the boxing ring Saturday when he fights Saul Almeida, a mixed martial arts veteran. Their six-round, non-title fight will be one of 11 bouts at Royale, a nightclub in Boston.
Almeida, a native of Brazil now living in Massachusetts, has a 16-5 MMA record but is 0-4 as a fighter. He is a late sub for John Hutchinson of South Boston (5-2-1), who withdrew because of injury.
Lamour, the Deering High graduate who trains at the Portland Boxing Club, is 8-0 after beating Laatekwei Hammond on an eighth-round TKO at the Portland Expo for the New England middleweight title.
Jimmy Smith of Biddeford (1-1-1) is also on the card, fighting Joe Wilson of Hartford, Connecticut (2-1). The main bout is between heavyweights Jason “Big Six” Estrada of Providence, Rhode Island (20-4) and Steve Vukosa of North Hollywood, California (8-0).
