The Unum track and field team won its sixth United States Corporate Athletics Association championship July 12-13 in San Marcos, California, taking first place in Division III (corporations with less than 10,000 employees). Unum’s 17-member team edged defending champion SCVAL of California by two points, 470-468.

The meet included 11 individual events, 14 relays and four team field events. Needing to win the final three relays to overtake SCVAL, Unum produced victories in the women’s relay, the pyramid relay and the sprint relay. Unum also won the men’s mile and submaster’s distance relay, and finished second in both the men’s and women’s 5K, as well as the discus, woman’s team 800, shot put and long jump.

Unum was represnted by Regina Roberts, Lisa Latno, Lauren Austin, Alice McAvoy, Roberta Kane, Tessa Miller, Shelby Kaplan, Mike Martin, Sam Seekins, Judy Hairsine, Leo Scheidl, Juliet Clarke, Rylan Cates, Eric Evans, Laura Peterson, Nate Priest and Kasey Erickson.

Bob Noiles aced the fourth hole at Nonesuch River in Scarborough on July 15. Noiles used a No. 3 hybrid for the 175-yard shot, which was witnessed by Ron Hebert and Rick Hebert.

John Palmer carded an ace on the fourth hole at Portland Country Club on July 16. Palmer used a 9-iron on the 122-yard shot, witnessed by Ted Noyes, Sam Parkhill and Guy Vigue.

John Zappia carded his second career hole-in-one on the 11th hole at Val Halla on July 19. Zappia used a 7-iron on the 150-yard shot, which was witnessed by Peter Allen and Skip Waltz.

Brent Profenno aced the fifth hole at the Woodlands Club on July 19. Profenno aced the 155-yard hole using a 7-iron. His shot was witnessed by Dale Lalone and Curtis Jordan.

Dave Shorey hit a hole-in-one on the fourth hole at Toddy Brook on July 19. Shorey used an 8-iron on the 120-yard shot, which was witnessed by Rick Cobb, Troy Cummings and Damion May.

Carol Hall carded a hole-in-one on the sixth hole at Poland Spring Golf Course on July 19. Hall used an 8-iron to ace the 107-yard shot, which was witnessed by Pat and Ralph Maines, Bill and Lynn Durkin, Barb and Jon Deschenes, and Loren Hall.

Paul Berube hit a hole-in-one on the fourth hole at Toddy Brook Golf Course on July 22. Berube used an 8-iron for the 120-yard shot, which was witnessed by Chris Hawkins, Skip Crowley and Lou Brown.

Ryan Denison aced the 13th hole at Sable Oaks Golf Club on July 24. Denison used a 7-iron on the 175-yard shot, which was witnessed by Aidan Boyce.

Josh Pelletier of North Conway, New Hampshire, hit his first hole-in-one on the 11th hole at Martindale Country Club on July 27. Pelletier used an 8-iron for the 152-yard shot, which was witnessed by David Baker, Tim Stoner and Taylor Mandell.
