South Portland police Tasered a woman who was cutting her arms with a pair of scissors Tuesday.

The incident happened at 7:30 a.m. at an apartment complex at 1700 Broadway. According to police, the woman, 45, was found behind the complex adjacent to the South Portland Municipal Golf Course. She had cut herself and was bleeding profusely, police said.

Officers attempted to get the female to drop the scissors, but she was non-compliant, according to a department release. One officer was ultimately able to get close enough and deployed a single, five-second cycle from Taser, which briefly incapacitated the woman and allowed the officers to disarm and gain control of her, police said.

The woman was taken to the hospital for evaluation and has been released. Her name was not released.
