WESTBROOK — Forty five people were left homeless Wednesday night after fire swept through their condominium complex on East Bridge St.
Fire Chief Michael Pardue said the fire department received a report of a kitchen fire at 8:14 p.m. from the Dolley Brook Condominiums.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy smoke. Everyone escaped and no injuries were reported, but Pardue said the fire caused burn, smoke and water damage to 24 condominium units.
The American Red Cross was notified and will find housing, food and clothing for the residents.
Fire crews from Portland, Falmouth, Gorham, Scarborough and Windham responded to the three-alarm fire.
