Three people suffered minor injuries when a go-kart left the Maine Lobster Festival parade route in Rockland on Saturday and crashed into them.
Rockland Deputy Police Chief Wally Tower said the operator of the Shriners go-kart lost control and went up onto a sidewalk at about 10:23 a.m., injuring a 43-year-old man, a 9-year-old boy and a 79-year-old woman who were watching the parade.
The man and boy were treated at the scene. The woman was treated at Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport and released.
Tower said the cause of the accident is under investigation. The names of the victims and go-kart operator were not released by police.
Shriner go-karts have crashed at parades in Maine in the past. A Vermont Shriner was injured in a Bangor parade in 2012 when his go-kart crashed into a trailer. A Shriner from Maine died in 2011 when his go-kart overturned during the Damariscotta Pumpkin Fest Parade in Newcastle.
The Rockland parade is part of the five-day festival, which concludes Sunday.
