One person was killed and another is in serious condition following a crash Saturday night on Doles Ridge Road in Limerick.

Investigators with the York County Sheriff’s Office believe speed was the primary cause of a 2005 Jeep soft top going off the road and rolling over. Neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

Kelsi Banks, 22 of Limerick was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Frank Flaherty, 28, of Biddeford was taken by LifeFlight medical helicopter to Maine Medical Center in Portland.

Sgt. Stephen Thistlewood was moving a tree branch in the road when he heard moaning and found Flaherty in a ditch, semi-conscious and with a head injury, said Chief Deputy William King. He then spotted the Jeep upside down with Banks inside.

Neither Banks nor Flaherty had been wearing a seatbelt, King said in a press release.

Rescue crews from Limington and Limerick responded. York County sheriff’s deputies are reconstructing the crash.

The Jeep was headed east on Doles Ridge Road when it crossed the center line and went off the road onto the left shoulder. It then came back onto the pavement and off the right side, hitting two trees before rolling over, the release said.
