LOUISVILLE, Ky. – U.S. captain Tom Watson says he would be foolish not to consider Tiger Woods as one of his wild-card selections for the Ryder Cup.

Woods missed the cut by five shots at the PGA Championship, just five days after he withdrew from a World Golf Championship because of a sore back. Woods missed three months this summer recovering from March 31 back surgery.

Watson doesn’t make his three captain’s picks for three more weeks. Woods isn’t playing in any of those tournaments.

Watson said Monday he will continue to speak with Woods. The 64-year-old captain says he would base his decision on what Woods tells him. Watson says the 14-time major champion can still bring plenty to the American team, and “I’d be a fool not to consider him.”
