I totally agree with Gail Raymond’s opinion expressed in her letter of Aug. 5 (“Lawmakers should outlaw tanning devices for young”), which documents the risks of tanning – with one exception.

She suggests the Legislature should “pass measures that would prevent young people from using indoor tanning devices.” I agree with that, too, but apparently she is unaware that in April 2013, Sen. Geoff Gratwick of Bangor, a physician, submitted just such a bill. It was then vetoed by Gov. LePage, who stated, “Maine parents can make the right decisions for their families.”

I suppose the same pseudologic could be applied to driving, alcohol use, voting and a number of other issues. In an ideal world, with ideal parents, it might work, but …

This is one more thing to consider as November approaches.
