A 60-year-old Lewiston man died Wednesday after he tried to break up a fight in his building, police said.
Louis St. Pierre, 60, owned the building at 738 Lisbon St. and lived on the first floor. About 5 p.m., St. Pierre tried to intervene in an verbal confrontation between two tenants, Lewiston police Lt. Michael McGonagle said Thursday.
The situation turned physical and resulted in St. Pierre losing consciousness.
When police arrived, St. Pierre’s family already had transported him to Central Maine Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
The cause of St. Pierre’s death is under investigation and an autopsy is being performed by the Office of the State Medical Examiner.
Police interviewed witnesses and people involved, but no one has been charged in the death.
Neither the medical examiner’s office nor Lewiston police returned calls for comment Thursday.
