CONCORD, N.H. — Members of New Hampshire’s congressional delegation and Gov. Maggie Hassan are mourning the loss of journalist James Foley.

U.S. officials said Foley was the person executed by Islamic State militants in a video posted online.

Congresswoman Carol Shea-Porter says she remembers Foley, who was from Rochester, as a child. She said she won’t allow evil to change the way she remembers him. She said she will always choose to remember his goodness, his life, and his great family.

Sen. Kelly Ayotte called Foley’s murder a “barbaric and heinous act” that “shocks the conscience and highlights the truly evil of the terrorists we confront, who must be defeated.” Sen. Jeanne Shaheen said Foley’s murder “was a cowardly act of terrorism.”

Gov. Maggie Hassan called Foley “a talented and fearless journalist.”
