MANCHESTER, N.H. — Portland pitchers allowed just one hit and Sea Dogs batters slugged 14 hits and four home runs Saturday night in a 7-1 win over the New Hampshire Fisher Cats in front of 7,538 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Portland has won eight consecutive games – the team’s longest streak since 2008 – and improved to a franchise-record 33 games over .500 with an 83-50 record. The Sea Dogs remained 2 1/2 games ahead of Binghamton in the Eastern League’s Eastern Division.

Sea Dogs starter Brian Johnson (10-2) didn’t allow a hit until Andy Burns homered with two outs in the sixth inning. Johnson struck out 10 and walked two in seven innings while lowering his league-leading ERA to 1.83.

Keury De La Cruz, Sean Coyle, Stefan Welch and Mike Miller hit solo home runs for Portland.

“Johnson did a really good job, had a no-no into the sixth. We came up with some big hits. The guys played really well today,” said Portland Manager Billy McMillon.

“(The winning streak) is a testament to how the guys have gone about their business all year. The emphasis has been on finishing strong, ending the season strong. Guys have taken that to heart.”

Portland took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. Welch hit his second home run in as many nights, depositing a pitch over the right-field wall with two outs. Jonathan Roof, Heiker Meneses and Miller followed with consecutive singles, with Miller’s hit driving home Roof to make it 2-0.

In the third inning, De La Cruz crushed an Austin Bibens-Dirkx pitch over the right-field wall, past the access road and onto the train tracks beyond.

Portland added a run in the fifth inning but could have had more. Coyle hit his 14th homer of the season to open the inning and De La Cruz walked, ending the night for Bibens-Dirkx. Carson Blair greeted reliever Justin Jackson with a single.

Michael Almanzar then roped a hit into right field, but De La Cruz was out at the plate on a strong throw from Brad Glenn.

Burns ended Johnson’s no-hit bid with a drive over the right-field fence in the sixth.

But the Sea Dogs answered with two runs in the seventh, getting to reliever Scott Gracey. De La Cruz drew a one-out walk and Blair followed with a single. Almanzar then singled off the right-field wall to drive home De La Cruz. A wild pitch brought Blair home to make it 6-1.

Miller’s home run, again over the right-field wall, stretched the lead to 7-1 in the eighth.

Portland relievers Aaron Kurcz and Dayan Diaz each worked a scoreless inning.
