Conservation trust honors Tuller as top volunteer

Great Pond Mountain Conservation Trust recently honored Connie Tuller of Frankfort with its Volunteer of the Year award at the land trust’s annual meeting.

Tuller has worked with GPMCT since 2007, originally tagging along with Hans Krichels and his group of teens from KidsPeace in Ellsworth, helping out with their weekly community service projects in Orland’s Great Pond Mountain Wildlands to cut brush, put up birdhouses, build brush piles and other projects.

Over the years, Tuller has shared her expertise on raising homing pigeons, leading nature hikes and offering plant identification walks with both KidsPeace kids and the public

Tuller also has donated many of the watercolor paintings she’s created to raise funds for the land trust. This past July, she donated four mornings to lead an Arts in the Wild program for kids.

“Connie is a great example of somebody who’s gone above and beyond for the community and the Wildlands, because of her love of the outdoors, the land and the kids,” said Cheri Domina, GPMCT executive director. “We’re pleased to be able to recognize her dedication and talent.”
