A Farmington man who went for a swim in Wilson Lake in Wilton drowned Tuesday afternoon.
Jeffrey Mitchell, 63, had been on a pontoon boat with a friend, Martha Martin of Wilton, at 4:30 p.m. when he dove into the water and struggled as he surfaced, according to the Maine Warden Service.
Martin tried to help him and eventually, along with two nearby kayakers, was able to get him out of the water, the warden service said. Rescuers met the group at the shore, where they pronounced Mitchell dead.
The incident is under investigation by the warden service.
