Sen. Angus King’s announcement of support for Eliot Cutler’s campaign for governor was good news for Maine people. Over the years, I’ve been privileged to know and work with both men. They are both intelligent, well educated and have been successful in private businesses as well as government service. They both have a history of working to improve public policy without being hung up with inflexible ideology that creates stalemates. Eliot served on Sen. Ed Muskie’s staff helping develop many of our successful environmental laws, and on President Jimmy Carter’s White House staff. He then created a successful environmental law firm. Imagine what a powerful team Sen. King in Washington and Gov. Cutler in Maine would be. Intelligence used wisely and education and experience are requirements for success.
