Jim Wellehan is right on the mark with his column on high CEO pay (“Maine Voices: Excessive CEO pay is more than unfair – it’s harmful to the economy,” Aug. 23).

And he doesn’t just preach this – he lives it. Bill Nemitz told Jim’s story in his July 16 column (“Stingy CEOs should walk in his shoes”). The subtitle of the column is “Jim Wellehan of Maine footwear fame pays his workers double the minimum wage, and says that’s one reason for his company’s success.”

Would that there were more CEOs with the strength of character and integrity of Jim!
