LIVERMORE

Registration open for history center’s live-in experience

Washburn-Norlands Living History Center is accepting registrations for a live-in history experience Sept. 26 and 27 at the campus at 290 Norlands Road.

The center is the home of Livermore’s Washburn family, a well-known political and industrial family of the 19th century. It now serves as a multifaceted museum and working farm offering experiences of rural Maine life from that era. The 445-acre estate includes the 1867 family mansion and attached farmer’s cottage, a granite library, an 1828 Universalist meetinghouse, an 1853 one-room schoolhouse and picturesque farmland.

Participants in the 24-hour living history event are immersed in 1870 farm life, taking on roles of family members and participating in an introduction to the food, activities and living conditions of the past. They stay overnight in an authentic reproduction of an 1870s farmer’s cottage.

The program is appropriate for ages 9 and older. Fees are $125 for adults and $95 for children 12 and younger. Fees include three home-cooked farm meals, snacks, one night’s lodging and instructional materials.
