DemerBox, the Portland startup that’s taking on Bose and other giants of the audio electronics industry with its next-generation boomboxes, has successfully reached its fundraising goal on the crowdfunding site Kickstarter.

The company, profiled in a Sept. 10 Portland Press Herald story, exceeded its $60,000 fundraising goal Wednesday morning. Projects on Kickstarter only receive the pledged funds if they reach their goal.

As of 3 p.m. Wednesday, the company had raised more than $64,000 from roughly 250 backers. The crowdfunding campaign runs until Sept. 13.

Co-founders James Demer and Jayson Lobozzo will use the funds, along with a $25,000 grant from the Maine Technology Institute, to begin manufacturing the boomboxes at their facility in Portland’s Bayside neighborhood.
