A sheriff’s deputy arrested a Boston woman in Gray early Tuesday morning on a felony drug trafficking charge after pulling her over for speeding and finding about 900 oxycodone pills in her vehicle.

Carla Barbosa, 36, is being held on $20,000 cash bail on charges of aggravated trafficking, a Class A crime punishable by up to 30 years in prison; possession of a usable amount of marijuana; and exceeding the posted speed limit.

Deputy Matt Tufts of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office pulled over Barbosa’s vehicle on Route 26 in Gray around 3:50 a.m. and smelled “a strong odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

Tufts used his specially trained and certified police dog to search Barbosa’s vehicle and found a small amount of marijuana and the oxycodone pills packaged in small bags, the sheriff’s office said.

Barbosa is scheduled to appear at the Cumberland County Courthouse to face the charges Wednesday.
