Deputy sheriff resigns after allegations of sexual assault

An Oklahoma sheriff’s deputy resigned Wednesday after two women said he sexually assaulted them at a Tulsa County home while he was on duty, a case that comes on the heels of a state trooper and an Oklahoma City police officer being arrested on sexual assault complaints.

Tulsa County Deputy Gerald Nuckolls, 26, was arrested late Tuesday on complaints of sexual assault and battery and indecent exposure. He remained jailed on $125,000 bond Wednesday.

Nuckolls’ arrest came a day after Oklahoma State Trooper Eric Roberts was arrested on complaints of kidnapping, rape and other crimes.

Alaskans receiving $1,900 from state oil wealth account

It’s a highly anticipated day of the year in Alaska, when residents learn how much money they’ll receive from the state’s oil wealth savings account – a payout people receive just for living in The Last Frontier.

This year’s share of nearly $1,900 is the sweetest since the Great Recession and the third-richest ever.

Gov. Sean Parnell announced the amount of the Alaska Permanent Fund Dividend with great fanfare. “This is all good news for Alaskans,” he said at an Anchorage press conference.

The payout to be distributed Oct. 2 is more than double the amount of last year’s $900 checks but short of the record payout of $2,069 in 2008.

Woman executed for starving death of child

A Texas woman convicted of the starvation and torture death of her girlfriend’s 9-year-old son a decade ago has been executed.

Thirty-eight-year-old Lisa Coleman is the ninth convicted killer and second woman to receive a lethal injection in Texas this year. She was condemned for the death of Davontae Williams, whose emaciated body was found in July 2004 at the North Texas apartment Coleman shared with his mother.

The U.S. Supreme Court earlier in the day rejected a last-minute appeal.
