Russell Lamour of the Portland Boxing Club improved to 10-0 with a TKO over Dennis Ogboo (7-8) at the 11th annual Fight To Educate charity event Thursday night at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, New Hampshire.

After repeated body blows from Lamour over the first two rounds of the fight, Ogboo retired before the start of the third.

SOFTBALL: Charlotte Lewis was 4 for 5 with three runs scored and an RBI, Melinda Pye went 2 for 3 with a three-run homer and Southern Maine CC (3-1, 1-2 Yankee Small Conference) cruised to a 21-1, five-inning victory over Eastern Maine Community College (0-6, 0-4) at Bangor.

GOLF

LPGA: Top-ranked Stacy Lewis birdied the last three holes and five of the final six for an 8-under 64 and a share of the lead with Mi Jung Hur in the Yokohama Tire LPGA Classic at Prattville, Alabama.

Lewis had a bogey-free round on The Senator course. She has a tour-high three victories this season.

EUROPEAN TOUR: Nicolas Colsaerts hit the longest drive ever recorded on the European Tour en route to taking the clubhouse lead with a 5-under 66 on the first day of the Wales Open in Newport.

Colsaerts hit his tee shot 447 yards on the par-five 18th hole of the Twenty-Ten course at Celtic Manor. He took full advantage of a prevailing breeze and the hard condition of the fairway at the 575-yard hole.

U.S. SENIOR AMATEUR: Former George Washington basketball player Patrick Tallent beat Bryan Norton of Vienna, Virginia, 2 and 1 in the final at Big Canyon in Newport Beach, California.

U.S. WOMEN’S SENIOR AMATEUR: Joan Higgins, a former University of Wisconsin tennis player, defeated Canada’s Judith Kyrinis 1 up in the final at Hollywood Golf Club in Deal, New Jersey.

PAN PACIFIC OPEN: Second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark rallied from a set down to beat qualifier Jarmila Gajdosova of Australia 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 to reach the quarterfinals at Tokyo.

The U.S. Open finalist will take on eighth-seeded Carla Suarez Navarro of Spain, who beat Daria Gavrilova of Russia 7-6 (5), 6-3.

Also, Garbine Muguruza of Spain beat fourth-seeded Jelena Jankovic of Serbia 7-6 (4), 6-4 and will face Casey Dellacqua of Australia in the quarterfinals. Dellacqua beat Marina Erakovic of New Zealand, 6-2, 6-4.

MOSELLE OPEN: Second-seeded Gael Monfils of France and third-seeded Philipp Kohlschreiber of Germany advanced to the quarterfinals at Metz, France.

Monfils overcame a slow start before beating Michal Przysiezny of Poland 7-5, 6-1. Kohlschreiber had 12 aces in a 6-3, 7-5 win against Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi.

DAVIS CUP DRAW: Britain will host the United States in a first-round rematch in next year’s Davis Cup in March.

Britain upset the Americans 3-1 last year in San Diego.

Britain has the choice of venue and surface.

HOCKEY

NHL: The Pittsburgh Penguins will hold out star centers Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin of the early days of training camp as a precaution. The team said both players sustained minor injuries in the run-up to camp, which opens Friday. New coach Mike Johnston said he doesn’t expect either to be out long term.

 The Minnesota Wild signed goalie Darcy Kuemper to a two-year contract, finally securing the restricted free agent a day after starting goalie Josh Harding broke his right foot.

BASKETBALL

WNBA: The league’s postseason drew its biggest television audience in seven years with a double-digit increase in ratings over last season.

The Phoenix Mercury’s three-game sweep of the Chicago Sky, seen on ESPN and ABC, saw an increase of 150 percent in the ratings from last season.

NBA: The Chicago Bulls signed former Orlando Magic guard E’Twaun Moore.

The team didn’t announce contract terms. Moore, 6-5 and 191 pounds, played in 79 games with the Magic last season, averaging 6.4 points per game.

 The Sacramento Kings signed forward Omri Casspi and center Ryan Hollins. Terms of the contracts were not released.

Casspi has averaged 7.7 points, 3.8 rebounds and 20.7 minutes in his career with Sacramento, Cleveland and Houston.

Hollins has averaged 3.8 points, 2.2 rebounds in his eight-year career. He has played for Charlotte, Dallas, Minnesota, Cleveland, Boston and the Los Angeles Clippers.

U.S. WOMEN’S TEAM: Hope Solo extended her shutout record to 73, and Amy Rodriguez, Tobin Heath, Alex Morgan and Megan Rapinoe scored to help the United States beat Mexico 4-0 in an exhibition in chilly conditions at Rochester, New York.

CYCLING

HOUR RECORD: Jens Voigt set a new mark in cycling’s historic Hour Record, racing 31.7 miles around a velodrome at Grenchen, Switzerland.

The 43-year-old German ended his career by beating the 30.8-mile mark of Ondrej Sosenka set in 2005.
