SOUTH CHINA — Charlotte Messer scored twice and assisted on the other goal Friday as Camden Hills won a clash of unbeaten girls’ soccer teams, posting a 3-0 win in a Kennebec Valley Athletic Conference Class B game.

Messer’s first goal came under unusual circumstances. She was trying to advance the ball toward Erskine’s goal when the ball wound up in the hands of keeper Cassandra Ray. But Ray then fumbled the ball and it dropped into the goal.

Camden Hills (4-0) struck again two minutes into the second half. Messer knocked a floating shot from 20 yards away over the head of Danessia Ewen, who replaced Ray after the first goal.

Erskine (4-1) showed improvement on the offensive end after the second goal but was unable to get a shot past Camden Hills goalkeeper Julia Holt. Erskine’s best chance came when Christina Belanger received an excellent pass from Avery Bond and raced down the sideline with an open path to the goal, but her shot went wide. Bond also had an opportunity on a free kick in front of the goal but shot the ball over the net.

Camden Hills added a goal midway through the second half when Emma Gutheinz knocked in a Messer corner kick.

Holt finished with five saves for the shutout.
