ACTON – A jury has found a former Acton town official guilty of 19 counts of income, sales and use tax evasion.

Maine Attorney General Janet T. Mills said the eight-day trial ended with a guilty verdict for 67-year-old Richard Weymouth.

He was elected to several terms on Acton’s budget committee and road committee. He also worked for the town plowing roads.

Mills says Weymouth evaded Maine and federal income tax between 2006 and 2012 by failing to report most of the income he earned from his snow plowing and excavation business. He also falsely claimed in tax documents that he was a legal resident of New Hampshire.

Weymouth’s sentencing is expected in about 45 days.
