YARMOUTH — Yarmouth High’s football team may not have been at the top of many preseason lists for Western Class C, but you might want to take another look at the Clippers.

Running its no-huddle offense to near perfection, Yarmouth overwhelmed Mountain Valley 42-3 on Friday night.

The Clippers (3-1) beat the Falcons on the ground, with Lucas Uhl and Jack Snyder combining for 305 rushing yards, through the air, as John Thoma threw two touchdown passes to Cody Cook, and on defense, where Joey Fortin had a safety.

“They run that offense very well,” said Mountain Valley Coach Steve LaPointe. “They’re very disciplined. They’re as good as anyone we’ve seen so far. We’ve played Spruce (Mountain), we’ve played Wells. They’re as good as any.”

“We definitely feel good about where we are,” said Yarmouth Coach Jason Veilleux. “We’ve got a tough stretch coming up that will tell us where we are.”

Uhl paced the offense with 171 yards rushing, getting most of them on his two touchdown runs – 48 and 76 yards. Snyder gained 134 yards.

Arthur Chee scored two touchdowns and Thoma passed to Cook for scoring plays of 28 and 35 yards.

“It’s just the way we drew it up,” said Thoma, who completed 8 of 9 passes for 106 yards.

Yarmouth was stopped on its first series but not again until the game was well in hand.

A 54-yard run by Snyder set up Chee’s first touchdown, a 5-yard run to the pylon. Andrew Beatty’s PAT kick made it 7-0.

After a Mountain Valley punt, Uhl struck with his 48-yard run to give the Clippers a 13-0 lead. The Falcons (1-3) recovered with a nice drive and got a 33-yard field goal from Kyle Farrar on the last play of the first quarter to make it 13-3.

But the Clippers quickly regained the momentum after a short kickoff. Thoma hooked up with Cook for their first touchdown, where Cook weaved his way through the secondary off a bubble screen to the left.

Then Fortin scored a safety when he tackled Farrar in the end zone to make it 22-3.

The Clippers scored quickly after the free kick, getting a 24-yard run from Snyder to set up Chee’s second touchdown.

Uhl scored the final touchdown on a 76-yard run.

“I wish I could say it was my skills,” Uhl said, “but it was all blocking.”

That’s how it was for much of the game.

“I think we’re shocking some people, showing where we really are in Class C,” said Snyder.
