Police are investigating an incident in which a person was hit by a freight train near Forest Avenue in Portland.
A Pan Am Railways train had been stopped at Saunders Street from about 1 to 7 a.m.
The person who was hit was taken to a local hospital with injuries believed to be serious but not life-threatening, police said. The person was hit about 5 feet west of Forest Avenue, according to Pan Am.
The train was stopped for several hours near Woodfords Corner and began moving again Monday before 7 a.m.
Saunders Street was blocked during early-morning hours. Traffic on Forest Avenue appeared not to be affected while the train was stopped.
