BOSTON — Boston Red Sox right-hander Clay Buchholz had minor knee surgery after an inconsistent season.

The operation to repair a torn meniscus in his right knee took place Tuesday, two days after he started the team’s final game. General Manager Ben Cherington said Buchholz pitched with the injury throughout the season.

Buchholz finished 8-11 with a 5.34 ERA.

TIGERS: Detroit will start this postseason just like last year’s: Max Scherzer in Game 1, Justin Verlander in Game 2.

Manager Brad Ausmus announced the team’s rotation for its AL division series, which begins Thursday at Baltimore.

The Tigers have the AL’s last three Cy Young winners in Scherzer, David Price and Verlander. Price (15-12) will start Game 3 in Detroit on Sunday, with Rick Porcello (15-13) slated for Game 4.

YANKEES: Outfielder Carlos Beltran had elbow surgery to remove a bone spur and loose pieces that limited his throwing ability for most of the 2014 season.

Beltran can start throwing and hitting in about six weeks and can play baseball in approximately 12 weeks.

Beltran, 37, was limited to 32 outfield appearances this year because of the elbow. An eight-time All-Star, he signed a $45 million, three-year contract during the offseason and hit a career-low .233 with 15 homers and 49 RBI.

BRAVES: Greg Walker quit as hitting coach.
