Entrepreneurial development organization Blackstone Accelerates Growth has chosen the recipients of its first Leaders for Growth awards, the Brunswick-based nonprofit said Tuesday.

The winners are law firm Eaton Peabody, grocery chain Whole Foods North Atlantic, payment card provider WEX Inc., and veterinary testing products maker Idexx Laboratories.

According to a Blackstone news release, the awards recognize organizations that have demonstrated leadership in supporting the growth of innovators, startups, creative entrepreneurs and the ecosystem around them.

Whether through their role in mentor programs, as program sponsors, as early adopters of products or as collaborators, each of the winning organizations has demonstrated the importance of innovation and entrepreneurship in Maine with their actions, the release said.

Blackstone Accelerates Growth is a partnership among the Maine Technology Institute, the Maine Center for Entrepreneurial Development and the University of Maine. Its goal is to build communities of innovation and entrepreneurship with a focus on growth and creating a more dynamic economy in Maine.
