FALMOUTH — Connor Aube scored three touchdowns, and Falmouth came up with two interceptions and a fumble recovery Friday night in a 27-8 victory against Westbrook in a Western Class B football game.

Falmouth (4-1) used a strong ground game, featuring Aube, George Gilbert and Nick Wisseman finding good holes.

“We didn’t bust any long ones. It was smash-mouth football but it was all good,” said Aube, who had 93 yards on 19 carries.

A good chunk came on the opening drive of the second half when Falmouth went 67 yards on 15 plays with Aube carrying nine times for 37 yards. No breakaways, just steady, hard- fought gains.

Quarterback Noah Nelson finished the drive that consumed 6:39 with a 1-yard run to make it 27-8.

Westbrook (1-4) moved the ball throughout but couldn’t finish. Early in the fourth quarter the Blue Blazes fumbled on the Falmouth 8 and later got to the 6, but on first down Austin Wheeler intercepted in the corner of the end zone.

“We had our chances,” said Westbrook Coach Jeff Guerette. “We have to learn to finish drives.”

The Yachtsmen passed only three times but Nelson was 3 of 3, all to Aube. He finished with 47 yards passing.

“I’m pleased with the way the kids played,” said Falmouth Coach John Fitzsimmons. “We came in with some injuries. We kind of had a patchwork lineup and felt we needed to run the ball.”

Fitzsimmons said his team was missing its two starting defensive ends. Westbrook took advantage on the opening series, getting a first down on an 8-yard run around the end by quarterback Bailey Sawyer. The Blazes faced a fourth-and-6 at the Falmouth 42 but Sawyer was stopped a yard short.

Falmouth scored on its second possession. Gilbert ran 23 yards on an inside reverse, then went 11 yards on the same play two plays later. Aube scored from the 12 on first down.

The Blazes responded by driving 66 yards in five plays to take the lead.

Maurice Johnson scored on a 23-yard run off tackle and then ran in the 2-point conversion to give Westbrook the advantage at 8-7.

Falmouth countered by going 51 yards with the key plays passes of 29 and 14 yards from Nelson to Aube.

Aube scored from the 11 on first down. Jared DeWolf’s kick made it 14-8. Aube added his third touchdown with 2:05 left in the first half on a 5-yard run.

Johnson finished with 100 yards on 16 carries. Sawyer completed 9 of 16 passes for 120 yards.
