PEAKS ISLAND — The Richard Boyd Art Gallery is holding its sixth annual exhibit of works featuring imagery from Maine.

The exhibition showcases a variety of media and styles highlighting the artists’ love of Maine. Artists in the exhibit include Rob Anderson, Amy Bickford, Jane Herbert, Felicity Sidwell, Wilson Stewart, Gwen Sylvester and Sarah Wilde.

Sidwell’s career has been one of constant exploration, study, evolution and growth. She primarily works in oils and prefers to work outside to capture the colors and light of the landscape. Sidwell is also showing at the Salt Exchange on Congress Street through November.

Stewart is a visual artist and licensed land surveyor living in the Lakes Region of New Hampshire. Sylvester’s style is intuitive and expressive. Wilde’s paintings are a reflection of what she loves – movement, the ocean and lakes, mountains and, most of all, light.

Anderson’s work was inspired by the working harbors, sailing vessels and the Maine coast. Bickford paints primarily in watercolor and acrylic-based gouache on gesso board. Herbert creates paintings in acrylic on canvas in a traditional style. The focus of her work is the coastal landscape.

“Scenes from Maine” runs through Oct. 31. The gallery is located at the corner of Island Avenue and Epps Street. For more information, call 712-1097 or go to richardboydartgallery.com.
