AUBURN — A Connecticut man hired to shoot rodents at a Maine egg farm has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for accidentally fatally shooting a farm worker.

The Sun Journal reports that Michael Warbin of Franklin, Connecticut, pleaded no contest to manslaughter in Androscoggin County Superior Court on Tuesday in connection with the August 2013 shooting of Manuel Adame.

As part of a plea deal, the 45-year-old Warbin will serve 45 days of a three-year sentence, four years’ probation, and perform 500 hours of community service.

Prosecutors say Warbin was shooting inside a barn being cleaned at Moark farm in Turner when he shot the 57-year-old Adame.

Authorities say Warbin did not know Adame was at the other end of the 600-foot long barn, cooperated with authorities, and is remorseful.
