SCARBOROUGH — A group in southern Maine is getting nearly $1 million from the federal government to help older adults living with dementia.

The Southern Maine Agency on Aging tells Maine Public Broadcasting Network that the grant will help the group better identify and serve people living with dementia and boost support given to caregivers, among other things.

SMAA planner Susan Dewitt-Wilder says 10 grants were given out to groups nationally. She says the federal government wants the groups to create financially sustainable programs to help people with dementia that can serve as models for other states across the country.
