JAKARTA, Indonesia — U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has touched down in Indonesia for a brief visit aimed at building support for the fights against Islamic State extremists and the deadly Ebola virus.

Kerry is also highlighting the Obama administration’s commitment to Asia by leading the U.S. delegation to the inauguration of new Indonesian President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.

Kerry has meetings planned with senior officials from Australia, Brunei, Malaysia, the Philippines and Singapore. U.S. officials said Kerry would press for more help in the fight against the Islamic State, particularly cracking down on recruitment of fighters from predominantly Muslim countries. .in Southeast Asia like Indonesia and Malaysia.
