Republican U.S. Sen. Susan Collins likes to brag about never missing a roll call vote. But here are some of the votes she should have missed in recent years instead of voting “no” on them:
• Amendment to the U.S. Constitution to Overturn Citizens United (corporate money in politics).
• Raising the federal minimum wage.
• Paycheck Fairness Act (equal pay for equal work).
• Emergency Unemployment Compensation Extension Act.
• National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014.
• Default Prevention Act of 2013.
• Amendment 1778: Limits Interest Rates for Certain Federal Student Loans.
• Student Loan Affordability Act.
• Amendment 711: Prohibits the Sale of Assault Weapons.
• Amendment 714: Limits Firearms Magazine Capacity (ban on high-capacity magazines).
• Middle Class Tax Cut Act.
On Nov. 4, remember that showing up is not the same as voting in your constituents’ best interests. Democrat Shenna Bellows offers a better, compassionate choice. Time for a change.
