When Republican Susan Collins first ran for the U.S. Senate, she expressed a desire to model herself after another outstanding senator from Maine, Margaret Chase Smith. I would say that Sen. Collins, now running for her fourth term, has achieved this goal.

Like Margaret Chase Smith, Sen. Collins has represented Maine with distinction and is highly regarded for her hard work, independence, leadership, integrity and honesty.

Conversely, Sen. Collins’ opponent, Shenna Bellows, has not been conducting herself in the legacy of Margaret Chase Smith, as she has been distorting Sen. Collins’ record, most notably on the government shutdown.

This is no way to win an election! The people of Maine value truthfulness above all else; Shenna Bellows seems to be lacking in this area.

Continue the legacy of electing honest, hardworking women to the U.S. Senate from Maine and re-elect Susan Collins.
