FALMOUTH — Yarmouth High soccer forward Adam LaBrie is known as a top-end finisher.

In cold, windy and increasingly wet conditions against rival Falmouth, LaBrie proved the reputation is warranted, scoring all the goals in a 3-0 win in the regular-season finale for two of the region’s top programs.

“It feels absolutely amazing,” LaBrie said. “I know it was their senior night and I know a lot of those guys. I’ve played with them for years but to get three goals on their senior night is absolutely amazing. My teammates put me in the right position every time and it was perfect.”

LaBrie scored in the 14th minute when he deftly touched in Connor Lainey’s low corner kick that skimmed across the goal mouth all the way to the far post.

His second and third goals came in the 68th and 72nd minutes in similar fashion. Long well-placed through balls (from first Nicholas Kamra and then Patrick Grant) put LaBrie in a position to get past one defender.

He did that both times, once with speed to run onto a Kamra diagonal ball, the second time dodging left, then right to get by a shielding defender. Both times he was able to neatly tuck quick, hard and low shots past onrushing Falmouth goalie Jesse Melchiskey.

“What I loved with his finishing was that it was simple,” Yarmouth Coach Mike Hagerty said. “He didn’t try to do too much. The goalie did everything right on those. He came out (with) good angles, good width, good aggression and Adam just got it past him.”

LaBrie has 18 goals this season, one shy of the Clippers’ single-season record that’s currently held by an assistant coach, Eoin Lynch.

Yarmouth (10-2-2) already had the top seed in Western Class B wrapped up entering the game but played like a team with something to prove, taking control in the opening minutes and dominating for all but the first 20 minutes of the second half.

Hagerty noted his team’s multi-player contributions. The Clippers certainly benefited from having captain Ben Vigue back on the field, aiding in communication and ball movement through the middle of the field. Vigue was out with an injury for more than two weeks at midseason, which included Falmouth’s 5-2 win at Yarmouth on Oct. 4.

Grant was a consistent ballhawking pest who created multiple turnovers by Falmouth defenders. Walter Conrad led a solid Yarmouth defensive group that limited Falmouth striker Luke Velas to scant touches. Yarmouth keeper Alex Lyon needed to make a mere two saves.

“They did everything well,” Falmouth Coach Dave Halligan said. “They’re just a good team. They’re one of the best teams in the state and they have one of the premier players in the state in Adam LaBrie. He’s a senior and seniors do what he did tonight.”

Falmouth suffered its first loss of the season and will take its 11-1-2 record into the Western Class A tournament, likely as the second seed behind Scarborough, the defending Class A champion.

Falmouth had the benefit of the wind in the second half and for several minutes appeared to be building for a tying goal, repeatedly winning short goal kicks by Lyons.

But the finishing touch wasn’t on Falmouth’s side as repeated long-range bids went well off the mark.
