A Mount Vernon man is facing a weapons charge after police conducting a search Wednesday said they found more than a dozen firearms inside his home.

Roger Clough, 49, was issued a summons charging him with possession of a firearm by a prohibited person, said Sgt. Michael Johnston of the Maine State Police.

Clough is prohibited from owning a firearm because of a felony conviction in 2001 of driving after habitual offender revocation.

State police, including investigators from the special investigation unit’s weapons division, as well as a game warden, searched Clough’s home at 442 Fogg Road on Wednesday morning. Police seized 16 firearms, including handguns and long guns, during that search, Johnston said.

Police also found marijuana inside the home, he said.

Police got a warrant to conduct the search after receiving information that Clough was in possession of firearms, Johnston said.

Information gathered during the investigation will be turned over to the district attorney’s office, Johnston said. He said there may be additional charges related to alleged hunting activity and drug possession.
