Nova Star Cruises has paid the city of Portland $234,135 this year and owes the city an additional $63,520, according to city officials.

The company operates the Nova Star, a ferry that travels between Portland and Yarmouth, Nova Scotia.

The company has told city staff that it will pay the outstanding balance by the end of the month, according to Anita LaChance, who heads the city’s Recreation & Facilities Management Department.

The city collects money from the company for use of the Ocean Gateway Terminal. The company has paid the city $25,025 in rent for office space and $53,550 in berthing fees.

The company pays the city a fee based on the number of passengers and vehicles travel on the ferry. Those fees for the season amount to $211,900. The company so far has paid $155,560 for fees incurred from May through August.

The ferry service ended its inaugural season on Oct. 13.
