GORHAM — A Westbrook woman dressed in a Hello Kitty costume was arrested by Gorham police on a drunken driving charge early Sunday morning.

Sgt. Benjamin Moreland said the officer stopped Carrie Gipson, 37, after he saw her driving on the wrong side of Mosher Road around 2 a.m. Moreland said Gipson failed a field sobriety test and was charged with operating under the influence.

Moreland said officer Dean Hannon reported that Gipson was wearing a Hello Kitty costume at the time, and told Hannon that she had been at a Halloween party.

Hello Kitty, a fictional character created by a Japanese company, appears as a white bobtail cat with a red bow.
