Kurdish troops on the way to aid defense of Kobani

Thousands of cheering, flag-waving people gave a noisy send-off to a group of Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga troops who left Tuesday for Turkey – the first step on their way to help their Syrian brethren fight Islamic extremists in the embattled border town of Kobani.

The unprecedented mission by the 150 fighters to help fellow Kurds in their battle with the Islamic State group came after Ankara agreed to allow the peshmerga to cross into Syria via Turkey – although the Turkish prime minister reiterated that his country would not be sending any ground forces of its own to Kobani.

Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu said that sending the peshmerga was “the only way to help Kobani, since other countries don’t want to use ground troops.”

Families frustrated by search for remains of 43 students

Forensic experts combed a gully in southern Mexico on Tuesday for the remains of 43 missing students, as frustration mounted among relatives of both the disappeared and the detained for the lack of answers more than a month into the investigation.

Workers in protective gear focused on a 25-by-25 foot-square area below the ridge of the municipal dump in Cocula, a town in Guerrero state where police have been arrested and linked to the Sept. 26 disappearances. But they have not said so far how many bodies have been found.

Parents of the students say they were not even notified of the latest remains, discovered Monday.

“We’re angry and very tired,” said Mario Cesar Gonzalez, father of missing Cesar Manuel Gonzalez. “We have an overwhelming sense of helplessness.”

Palin says ‘haters’ provoke her ambition to run again

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin suggested Tuesday that she has not run her last campaign for public office.

Palin, a Republican, said in an interview on Fox Business Network that her “haters” only strengthen her resolve to be a force in politics.

“It invigorates me it wants me to get out there and defend the innocent,” she said. “It makes me want to work so hard for justice in this country. “

Palin, the 2008 vice presidential nominee, resigned as governor of Alaska in 2009.
