A Brunswick man faces a charge of drunken driving and a felony charge of eluding police following a high-speed chase through Bath that ended when he crashed.

Bath police spotted Rayon Wilson, 30, driving a 2005 Cadillac, spinning his tires and speeding through the parking lot of Brackett’s Market on Wednesday, police said in a news release.

Police recognized Wilson from an altercation about 45 minutes earlier at a local bar, when he was warned not to drive.

Wilson drove through town pursued by police along several roads before finally turning onto Chandler Drive, the release said. As the car entered a winding section of the road, Wilson lost control and crashed into a guardrail, flipping the vehicle on its side. It slid 281 feet before coming to a stop on its roof, police said.

Wilson tried to get away but was arrested by Officer Garrett Wilson and Cpl. Jason Aucoin.

Wilson was taken to Mid Coast Hospital for treatment, then to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscassett, where he is being held on $10,000 bail.
