The Coast Guard plans to investigate an incident in which a 577-foot tanker loaded with ultralight sulfur diesel was adrift off the coast of Portsmouth and got its propulsion system tangled in a 65-foot fishing boat’s anchor line southeast of Boon Island Ledge.

At about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, the anchor line of the 3 Kings fouled the propulsion system of the Cape Beale and was eventually cut, according to the Coast Guard. No injuries or significant damage was reported though the two boats did scrape against each other, the Coast Guard said. The boats were secured outside the entrance to Portsmouth Harbor and the tanker as waiting to offload its cargo at a terminal in the New Hampshire port.
