BANGOR — Farmers and community members are teaming up to provide Thanksgiving meals to thousands of families across Maine.

Solidarity Harvest, a group organized by the workers’ advocacy organization Food and Medicine, has put together about 1,200 Thanksgiving baskets that will be delivered to families that are struggling financially over the holiday.

Using donations collected from unions, businesses and individuals, Solidarity Harvest collected food from dozens of local farmers and turkeys from Manna Ministries.

Food and Medicine Director Jack McKay tells WABI-TV that the goal is to help families that are on “hard times,” which can be found across the state “from St. Agatha to Sanford, Bridgton to Calais.”
