ASHLAND — Maine State Police say a northern Maine man narrowly escaped injury when his minivan struck a moose on Route 163.

Police say 34-year-old Mark Forino of Presque Isle was heading east on Sunday night in Ashland when the moose walked into the road in front of his Toyota Sienna.

Forino was unable to avoid impact and the van struck the moose, killing it.

The moose crashed through the windshield and into the passenger compartment of the van, narrowly missing Forino.

The driver was not injured but did have some broken glass flushed from his eyes at the scene.
