KITTERY — Police from New Hampshire and Maine caught up with a suspect who sped away from a traffic stop in North Hampton and abandoned his car across the border in Kittery.

A New Hampshire state trooper stopped a car on Interstate 95 north about 8:20 p.m. Saturday for lane change violations. As the trooper approached, the vehicle sped north.

Kittery police later located the abandoned car behind a truck stop. Maine and New Hampshire state police teamed up to look for the driver and found him in the lobby of a nearby motel.

Police say Darman Rosario, 28, of Lawrence, Massachusetts, was charged as a fugitive from justice and is being held at the York County Jail in Maine.

It was not immediately known whether Rosario has a lawyer.
