CANTON, Ohio — Justin Johnson scored 18 points to lead five players in double figures for the Canton Charge (3-3), who never trailed in a 99-88 victory over the Maine Red Claws (4-2) on Sunday evening at the Canton Memorial Civic Center.

Canton opened the game with a 10-2 run and led 31-24 at the end of the first quarter. The Charge held the Red Claws to just 15 points in the second quarter while extending the lead to 51-39 going into halftime.

The Red Claws were able to cut the deficit to single digits midway through the third quarter, eventually trimming the lead to three points twice in the final minutes of the fourth quarter.

Tim Frazier made a layup for the Red Claws to cut the deficit to 89-86 with 2:31 left in the game, but the Charge responded with eight straight points to put the game out of reach.

Chris Crawford made a pair of 3-pointers for Canton during the clinching 8-0 run.

The Red Claws were paced by Jermaine Taylor with a game-high 22 points. Taylor also had seven rebounds and four assists.

Christian Watford added 18 points for Maine and Frazier and Omari Johnson chipped in 14 points apiece.
