Two sisters with ties to Maine were shot and one died on Thanksgiving morning in what police in Oregon are calling a murder-suicide committed by the dead woman’s boyfriend.

Capt. Ty Hanlon of the Sherwood, Oregon, Police Department, said Tonya Davis, 42, was shot and killed by her live-in boyfriend, James Paul, 46.

Paul wounded Davis’ sister, Tina Flock, 43, before killing himself.

Hanlon said Davis and Paul had lived in the rented home where the shootings occurred for about two years. Flock was visiting for the holidays. The women are originally from Dexter, Maine, Hanlon said.

Flock was expected to recover after being shot in the face and arms. She was transported by ambulance to a hospital and had surgery. “This was the first time that the police department had been involved with anyone at the home,” Hanlon said. “It’s a tragedy.”

The women’s mother, Barbara Davis, lived in the home, but wasn’t there when gunfire broke out.

Sherwood police officers received a phone call about an assault with a weapon at 12:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Cereghina Lane, Hanlon said.

Flock was able to escape and make it to the home of a neighbor, who notified police.

“Several hours passed. We could see Paul moving around inside the home,” Hanlon said. “But Paul never contacted us or even acknowledged that we were there.”

Members of the Washington County Major Crimes Team – a tactical unit – sent a robot into the house. Once police had determined that Paul was dead they searched the property and found Davis’ body lying next to the home. She had gunshot wounds to the head, chest and extremities.

Friends of the family have started a fundraising campaign on the GoFundMe website. More than $500 had been raised by Tuesday night to pay for Davis’ funeral expenses.
