J.L. Coombs is going out of business after 184 years of selling shoes and boots.
The Bangor-based company has stores in Portland; Freeport; Portsmouth, New Hampshire; and Newburyport, Massachusetts. A going-out-of-business sale is set for Dec. 5.
According to the J.L.Coombs website, stores in Portland and Freeport will be closed all day Thursday to prepare for “a huge going out of business sale beginning Friday, December 5th.”
The company says it was the oldest shoe store still in operation in the country.
