Benedict Williams had 17 points and eight rebounds Friday night to lead Deering to a 64-59 victory against Bonny Eagle in an SMAA schoolboy basketball opener.

Friday was the opening night of high school basketball throughout the state.

Garang Majok added 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Rams.

Deering used pressure defense early to build a 19-11 lead, then got into foul trouble, and Bonny Eagle pulled within 34-31 at halftime. The score was 47-44 through three quarters.

The Scots, who have reached the last four Western Class A finals, finished with 28 points at the foul line. Ben Malloy scored 13 of his team-high 21 points and Nick Dubay 11 of his 14 points at the line for Bonny Eagle.

WAYNFLETE 79, GREATER PORTLAND CHRISTIAN 29: Abel Alemayo scored a game-high 12 points as the Flyers won at Portland.

Abdullahi Mohamed and Tommy Silk each added 10 points, and Jack Meahl hit three 3-pointers for Waynflete.

David Davol led Greater Portland Christian with eight points, Ethan Spaulding tossed in seven.

BOOTHBAY REGION 72, DIRIGO 66: Reserve Abel Bryer scored 18 points and John Hepburn added 16 to lead the Seahawks at Boothbay Harbor.

Riley Robinson paced Dirigo with 25 points, including 15 free throws.

GORHAM 60, MARSHWOOD 51: Billy Ruby scored eight of his team-high 16 points in the fourth quarter, going 6 of 6 from the line as the Rams pulled away at South Berwick.

Marshwood led 23-21 at halftime and 40-39 after three quarters.

Nick Thibeault had 10 points and Tyler Bernaiche added seven for Gorham.

Drew Bartlett led nine Marshwood scorers with 12 points.

WESTBROOK 45, SANFORD 41: Sean Jany had 15 points and 14 rebounds to lead Westbrook at home.

The Blue Blazes trailed 21-18 at halftime, then took the lead for good in the third quarter. Jany scored eight points in the fourth.

Blake Fillmore added 11 points for Westbrook. Brad Bouchard led the Spartans with 11.

NORTH YARMOUTH ACADEMY 53, A.R. GOULD 23: Chase Gendron scored 27 points for the Panthers, who took a 30-10 halftime lead at South Portland.

GRAY-NEW GLOUCESTER 51, GREELY 41: Tyler St. Pierre finished with 17 points, Andreas Kariotis added 11 and Zackery Haskell scored 10 to lead the Patriots at Gray.

Matt McDevitt paced Greely with 19 points.

SCARBOROUGH 74, BIDDEFORD 46: Milani Hicks scored 28 points as Scarborough won at Biddeford.

Nate Wessel added 18 points and Sam Freeman had 12 for the Red Storm.

Patrick Pearl led Biddeford with 17.

BRUNSWICK 63, CONY 55: Alex Bandouveres finished with 17 points and Taran Payne added 15 as Brunswick overcame a 13-2 deficit at home.

Thomas Hanson added 11 points and Josh Dorr scored 10 for the Dragons.

Timothy Cusick led Cony with 25 points. Liam Stokes chipped in with 15.

PORTLAND 72, MASSABESIC 38: Stephen Alex scored 23 points, including nine in the first quarter as Portland, the defending Class A state champion, opened a 21-2 lead at home.

Amir Moss finished with 16 points and nine rebounds for the Bulldogs. Liam Densmore added 11 points and John Williams scored 10.

SEACOAST CHRISTIAN 56, SACOPEE VALLEY 47: Caleb LaCroix had 18 points and Isaac LaCroix added 16 for the Guardians at South Hiram.

Tim Yeaton scored 12 points for Seacoast Christian, which built a 32-16 halftime lead.

Blake Trueworthy led Sacopee Valley with six 3-pointers for 18 points, including a shot at the halftime buzzer. Will Goforth added 10 points.

CAPE ELIZABETH 59, WELLS 48: Ethan Murphy scored all 12 of his points in the first half as Cape Elizabeth opened a 30-17 lead and won at home.

Finn Bowe led the Capers with 17 points. Deandre Woods scored 15 points and Keegan Reidy had 10 for the Warriors.

MEDOMAK VALLEY 87, BELFAST 27: Nick DePatsy scored a school-record 48 points and Zach Starr added 14 to lead the Panthers at Waldoboro.

DePatsy eclipsed the previous record of 45 points set by Alan Baron in 1975.

FRYEBURG ACADEMY 51, LAKE REGION 47: Ryan Gullickson hit the tying layup in the final seconds of regulation, then added five free throws in overtime for the Raiders at Fryeburg.

Gullickson finished with 24 points and Jonathan Burk contributed 10 for Fryeburg.

Nate Smith led Lake Region with 19 points. Marcus DeVoe tossed in 10.

POLAND 60, FREEPORT 43: Alan Young scored 19 points for the Knights at Freeport.

Poland took a 34-21 halftime lead and wasn’t threatened.

John Fossett added 12 points and Zach Lowe 11 for Poland.

Jack Davenport led Freeport with 15 points. Brendan Qualls added three 3-pointers and finished with 13 points.

GARDINER 67, LEAVITT 48: Seth MacFarland scored 20 points to go along with six rebounds and two steals for the Tigers at Turner.

Brian Dunn had 12 points, six rebounds and four assists for Gardiner, and Brad Weston added 11 rebounds, six points and four assists.

Corey Caito led Leavitt with 18 points.

MT. ABRAM 71, CARRABEC 62: Carl Trafton scored 21 points and Quintin Hannah added 22 to spark the Roadrunners at Salem.

Isaac Vaillancourt and Dustin Crawford scored 15 points each, and Sean Vartanian added 14 for the Cobras.

MAINE CENTRAL INSTITUTE 50, WATERVILLE 30: Austin Tolman scored 14 points as the Huskies triumphed at Pittsfield.

Devon Begin finished with eight points to lead the Panthers.
