The York County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the theft of a homegrown Christmas tree that had been planted by a woman in memory of late her twin brother.
Chief Deputy William L. King Jr. said the theft occurred at a residence on Bond Spring Road – also known as Route 11 – in Newfield late Sunday night or early Monday morning.
King said the owner, who does not want to be identified, planted and nurtured the 6-foot-tall balsam fir Christmas tree in her side yard in memory of her twin brother, who died last year after suffering a heart attack. The 2014 Christmas season would have marked the first anniversary of his death.
King said the Christmas tree had been decorated with solar lights, which the thief discarded at the scene.
Anyone with information about the tree is urged to contact the sheriff’s office at 324-1113. Tips or messages can also be placed on the department’s Facebook page.
