WILLIAMSBURG, Va. — Christiana Gerostergiou hit a 3-pointer with 1.7 seconds left to give the University of Maine women’s basketball team a 54-51 win Sunday over William & Mary.

William & Mary (6-4) was down 51-46 with a minute left but rallied to tie it with a 3-pointer by Marlena Tremba and a layup by Jazmen Boone with 48 seconds left. Boone then recorded a steal to give William & Mary the ball back, but the Tribe turned it over.

Maine (8-4) pushed the ball up the floor and lost control, but Liz Wood was able to flip the loose ball to Gerostergiou, who hit the winning basket. Boone missed a half-court shot at the buzzer.

Sigi Koizar scored 15 points for the Black Bears, while Wood finished with 14 points and nine rebounds. Anna Heise chipped in with 11 points.

(1) SOUTH CAROLINA 84, LIBERTY 44: A’ja Wilson had 17 points and 10 rebounds off the bench as the Gamecocks (12-0) beat the Flames (6-5) in Minneapolis.

(2) UCONN 86, UCLA 50: Breanna Stewart scored 22 points to lead a balanced offense and the Huskies (8-1) beat the Bruins (4-6) in the Naismith Hall of Fame holiday showcase in Uncasville, Connecticut.

(3) TEXAS 67, (4) TEXAS A&M 65: Empress Davenport’s layup with 4.2 seconds left helped the Longhorns (10-0) overcome an 11-point second-half deficit and beat the Aggies (11-1) in North Little Rock, Arkansas.

(5) NOTRE DAME 64, ST. JOSEPH’S 50: Freshman Brianna Turner scored 19 points in her return from injury as the Fighting Irish (11-1) beat the Hawks (3-7) in South Bend, Indiana.

(6) NORTH CAROLINA 85, ELON 67: Allisha Gray scored 20 points, and Stephanie Mavunga added 10 points and 11 rebounds as the Tar Heels (11-1) pulled away in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

(13) DUKE 89, (8) KENTUCKY 68: Freshman Azura Stevens scored 17 points and the Blue Devils (8-3) beat the Wildcats (10-2) in Durham, North Carolina.

(14) MARYLAND 110, COPPIN STATE 51: Brene Moseley had 18 points and eight assists to lift the Terrapins (9-2) past the Eagles (1-9) in Baltimore.

(23) IOWA 100, DRAKE 98: Samantha Logic’s layup through traffic with less than 3 seconds left lifted the Hawkeyes (9-2) past the Bulldogs (5-6) in Des Moines, Iowa.

Men’s basketball

ARMY 72, MAINE 90: Mo Williams scored all seven of his points in the final minute of overtime to help the Black Knights (8-2) beat the Black Bears (1-9) in West Point, New York.

Maine led 66-65 before Williams hit a 3-pointer with 57 seconds left. A free throw by Shaun Lawton pulled the Black Bears within one, but Williams was fouled and hit two free throws for a 70-67 Army lead. Till Gloger’s basket made it 70-69 with 5 seconds left, but Williams hit two more free throws.

Zarko Valjarevic led Maine with 22 points, Aaron Calixte scored 11 and Gloger added 10.

(6) VIRGINIA 76, HARVARD 27: Mike Tobey scored 15 points in the first half and the Cavaliers (11-0) beat the Crimson (7-2) in Charlottesville, Virginia.

Malcolm Brogdon also had 15 points to help Virginia match its best start since 1992-93.

(17) MARYLAND 73, OKLAHOMA STATE 64: Jake Layman had 21 points and 11 rebounds as the Terrapins (11-1) beat the Cowboys (9-2) in Stillwater, Oklahoma.
