A fire in a building at Sanford’s trash transfer station was brought under control Monday night, but firefighters were expected to be at the scene late into the night and possibly the early morning, cleaning up debris from the fire.

A firefighter at the Sanford Fire Department’s Central Station said the building was fully in flames by the time crews arrived, about 9:45 p.m. No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The transfer station is at 81 Rushton St. The building that was damaged is set apart from the main facility.

Last month, a fire destroyed the Wells transfer station and several pieces of machinery that were stored inside.
